Attraction marketing is causing quite a stir in online and network marketing communities because, let’s face it, traditional prospecting can be just a fine line away from stalking and harassment. As individuals discover the power of online commerce and its ability to get them out of the 9 to 5 grind, more and more are turning to network marketing, affiliate marketing, and ecommerce to live the laptop lifestyle that is so seductive. You’ve probably noticed this on your Facebook feed as your friends spam you with before and after pictures, product testimonials, and the latest sale ads. Companies are still giving the same old advertising advice that they have given for years, but in the online world the old strategies are ineffective. You must adapt if you want to achieve big success, and attraction marketing is the way to go.
Attraction Marketing Begins With You
People buy from those they know, like, and trust, so attraction marketing begins with you. The best place to learn about creating your brand and your attractive character persona is with Russell Brunson’s book Expert Secrets (get a free copy here). Russell teaches 2 critical pieces of information that you must develop to be the attractive character that people will be drawn to. First, you must convey your story in a carefully crafted and compelling way that is tailored to the audience that you want to attract. Next, you must understand in minute detail the goals, wants, needs, and pain points of your ideal prospect. Targeting a very specific audience will give you much better results than saying, “My product/service is for EVERYONE!” There’s nothing wrong with creating a little polarity, in fact that is a good thing! Learn tons more about this in Expert Secrets.
Fishing In The Right Pond
You wouldn’t go to a small pond to catch a tuna. It’s not the place where tuna hang out! People are the same way. Getting to know your ideal customer’s habits, preferences, entertainment choices, challenges, and goals will help you identify places online where they can be found. Taking the time to thoroughly complete a profile of your ideal prospect can save you countless hours and thousands of dollars on ineffective ads. Your message doesn’t matter if the right audience never sees it.

Choosing The Right Bait
Continuing with my fishing analogy, different types of fish prefer different types of bait. I never really appreciated this until I married my fisherman husband. I grew up on a farm where fishing consisted of cane poles and the bait was a piece of hotdog on a hook. Catfish loved it! But my husband taught me that perch, bass, and catfish here in Texas are attracted to very different types of bait. Some prefer shiny lures that reflect sunlight while others love the brightly colored rubber pollywogs that dance through the water. People are the same.
Your primary goal in marketing online, and the goal most marketers struggle with, is to get high quality leads. You should be asking for an exchange of information. If you give me your contact information, I will give you this valuable item that you want. The key is VALUE. You must provide value in attraction marketing to your target audience. Then they will be ATTRACTED to you and REACH OUT to you! But this is where so many marketers go wrong…
Let’s say that you’re a rep for a makeup company. Your upline tells you to post before and after photos, promotions, and lots of selfies on your social media. This may work with your warm market at first. You will probably get some sales and a few recruits into your business, but after that initial tickle of your warm market your friends will start to get annoyed. And they will “unfollow” you. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not judging. I did it, too! But when we know better, we can do better. So what’s an entrepreneur to do?
Build Your Audience
Now that you’ve taken the time to write your story and really nail down your perfect customer avatar, you can get to work. People are on social media for 3 reasons only. They want to consume content, be entertained, and network with others. They do not want to be sold to. So give them what they want! Even on your personal Facebook wall you can do this without annoying your friends and family. Let’s roll with the makeup tribe example. Your ideal customer may also love shopping and fashion, have young children, enjoys movies and restaurants, and want more time to spend with family and on fun activities. Give them what they want!
People buy from those they know, like, and trust. You must build a relationship and establish the “know, like, and trust” factor before you ever ask for a sale. So if I were this makeup company rep, I would post about fashion trends that I like, great new restaurants, copycat restaurant recipes, activities or crafts for kids, the last movie that I saw, and the family outings or vacations that I am taking. If you’re not at the point in your business yet where you get to take off whenever you want and go on a trip, share your bucket list or travel dreams. And show that you’re working toward those goals. You will inspire all who see you and ATTRACT them to you like a moth to a flame! Then you can reach out to them in a completely natural way and offer them your product or opportunity in a way that makes sense because you KNOW them.
