Today’s post is going to ruffle some feathers, but that’s the way it goes. When you’re young, older people offer an abundance of well meaning career advice that is often outdated. I am 44 years old, so you can imagine the career advice that I was given in the early 1990s… go to college, get a job, save for retirement. Sounds pretty familiar, right? There are still a large number of families and guidance counselors giving this advice to teens today. I know this because I have a teen, and I see what messages he’s getting from his high school. The cherry on top of that career advice was, “become a teacher. You’ll get summers off and have the same schedule as your kids.” Sounds pretty logical, right? This advice was obviously given by someone who was not a teacher in public education. Today, I am going to share the reality of being a teacher and the career advice that I wish I had been given and that I am giving to my children today.

So this is the golden goose, right? If you’re in any kind of business, high quality leads are your life’s blood. Finding them can be like finding needles in a haystack. However there is a way that you can attract the leads you want if your method is carefully thought out and crafted. Let me explain.
Identify your main goal.
Do you want more product customers for your main business? Are you looking to recruit more distributors in your network marketing business? Decide what you want, and pave the path to it. Let’s look at two possible examples.
Case 1: You are a network marketer in the health and wellness space. Your goal is to attract more customers to your business. First, identify the likes, needs, goals, and pain points of your ideal customer. Really dig in here. The more you know and understand your ideal customer, the more you can craft your entire message so that it seems to reach out and grab them. So let’s say that your ideal customer is a mom with children at home. This person loves Pinterest, quick healthy recipes, ideas for family outings or kids activities, stress management ideas, etc. This is the bait that this particular fish will bite. So use the right bait! You can blog about these things, include affiliate links to related products that they will love and buy, and include content upgrades that readers can opt in for. Have an opt in form for your newsletter, and use that newsletter to keep delivering value. Get them to know, like and trust you, and they will buy from you!
Case 2: You are a network marketer in the health and wellness space. Your goal is to attract leaders and distributors to your opportunity. As we identify the likes, needs, goals, and pain points of the ideal distributor, think about the type of person you want to link arms with. I look for people who are driven and are actively seeking tools to help them build a business online or market. Affiliate marketers are great to expose to the network marketing model because they understand the power of commissions, but aren’t yet leveraging their list to create the residual income that comes from network marketing business models. Create a blog and offer value to this group of people. Marketers are looking for ways to get more leads, training on prospecting through social media and blogs, how to use the latest tools, tips to increase conversions, and the list goes on. Provide valuable content for them with lead capture pages that offer content upgrades, free ebooks, free courses, etc that will provide more training and value to their pursuits. You can occasionally include content upgrades such as videos and courses that are paid and appeal to your audience to make money off of your audience even if they do not want to join your opportunity. As they get to know like and trust you, you can plant little seeds about how you’re doing in your opportunity and extend an offer to share it with them. Be picky. You can’t afford not to screen your prospects, or you will waste a lot of time with those who aren’t ready to run with you. Remember that success loves speed!
